BAFTAs 2018: 7 Ups & 6 Downs

7. The Shape Of Water-Themed Cirque Du Soleil
In one of the strangest opening sequences to a BAFTA show in recent memory, this year's broadcast opened with a The Shape of Water-themed performance by Cirque du Soleil, with the two performers dressed as Sally Hawkins' Elisa Esposito and Doug Jones' Asset respectively.
It was a welcome riposte to the self-important stuffiness of the awards circus - pun intended - and a genuinely impressive feat in its own right.
The troupe apparently also performed other routines for all the main nominees, but clearly, they were cut for the sake of time, which at least makes more sense than cutting actual awards out.
