Andy Serkis was the recipient of an honorary BAFTA this year, for his "Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema," which in previous years has been given to a wide variety of talents both in front of and behind the camera.

Serkis is of course widely celebrated for his pioneering work as a performance capture artist, and though Serkis' acceptance speech was kept short, he made sure to bang the drum for an acting method which many still don't recognise as "proper" acting.

Better still, he especially singled out Weta Digital for their help bringing his performance to life, given the previous friction which has existed between Serkis and VFX artists, who have accused him of downplaying their contributions to his performances.

In addition to rewarding an under-appreciated actor for his fantastic work over the years, the award was also a grand opportunity for Serkis to smooth things over with the visual effects community, and that he certainly did.
