Batgirl Movie: 10 Directors To Replace Joss Whedon

10. Jennifer Kent

Jennifer Kent shot to fame with the success of her 2014 indie horror The Babadook, which demonstrated her sure skill at delivering restrained thrills, accompanied by gorgeous visuals and a distinctly feminist vision.

Given the recent trend for movie studios to scoop up indie darlings to helm their big-budget blockbusters - especially superhero films - it'd be a huge mistake if Kent wasn't in consideration for the gig.

How Likely Is It?: Kent's currently deep into post-production on her second feature, The Nightingale, and if Warner Bros. wants to move fast, the scheduling simply may not work out.

Alternatively, Kent might not even be interested. When rumours began to swirl that Marvel Studios was seeking her out for Captain Marvel, she coyly said in an interview, "You have no idea what’s going on at my end – what I’m actually saying no to."

If we accept that clear implication, that she's turned down tentpole fare before, it's harder to imagine her signing on for a DC movie. But at the same time, it's not a hard pass either. 3/10
