Batman 2018 Movie: 6 Influential Storylines We Want To See

5. The Long Halloween

Jeph Loeb€™s The Long Halloween takes place over a period of months and follows a relatively young Batman as he tracks a serial killer who strikes in Holiday seasons. Quickly dubbed €˜Holiday€™, Batman must track down the killer whilst struggling to suppress a war between Gotham€™ two most prominent mob groups and dealing with the loss of a friend and ally to madness and villainy. Thanks to its drawn out time period, The Long Halloween covers a lot of ground.

What separates The Long Halloween from anything else we€™ve seen so far from DC and Warner is that it can essentially act as a genre piece, a stand alone crime thriller that would allow Batman to be the great detective that he€™s so often touted as being instead of a brawler in a cape.

It€™s worth pointing out that elements of The Long Halloween have already appeared in the movies, most notably its origin story for Harvey €˜Two Face€™ Dent and the increased focus on the Falcone and Maroni crime families, both of which were co-opted for Nolan€™s Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Still, The Long Halloween has plenty to offer in narrative terms, and after Batman has had a super-powered blowout with Supes in 2016 it would be refreshing to see him getting back to the basics of fighting a more grounded style of criminal.
