Batman: 75 Greatest Ever Moments

63. Stalking Your First Group Of Thugs

In Arkham Asylum the first time you€™re unleashed on an expansive room full of goons all completely unaware of your presence was the perfect reenactment of every fan€™s dream; darting shadow-to-shadow taking the squad apart one-by-one as you victimised another hapless thug into a heart-rate-increased stupor, only to drop down behind him and deliver one final slow-motion punch to end his misery. You were €œThe Batman€ so many had spoken about, and it felt glorious.

62. Joel Schumacher's Cameo - The New Batman Adventures

In a surprisingly self-referential moment, an episode of The New Batman Adventures featured a cameo for a particularly colourful young character who greets the audience with the following: "I love Batman. All those muscles, the tight rubber armour and that flashy car? I heard it can drive up walls!" And the punchline from his friend? "Yeah, sure Joel."

61. The Joker's Musical Interlude - Justice League

In a rare moment of physical prowess, the Joker uses Ace's hypnotic powers to his advantage to beat up the incapacitated Batman, adding a musical accompaniment to the thrashing that is a perfectly phrased portrayal of everything he represents.

60. Batman Fights A Tiger - Batman 1960s

Perfectly illustrating both the best and the worst of the 1960s show, Batman "fights" a tiger long before he wrestled the worst rubber shark in the history of films.

59. The Arkham Knight Money Shot

The world waited with baited breath following the by-the-numbers entry in the Arkham series with Origins. We longed for longtime voice actor Kevin Conroy to return, for the series to introduce some new mechanics to an ageing system, and for original developers Rocksteady to take up the reins once again. Back at the start of March would we get all of that and more, with one of the most perfect, fan-salivating trailers ever conceived. As if it needed doing, Rocksteady reclaimed their throne with righteous aplomb, giving us an image that instantly became thousands of fans' desktop wallpaper.

58. The Death Of Ace - Justice League Unlimited

When it is revealed that dying young villain Ace's demise will potentially cause the death of millions, Batman is charged with taking her out with a super-powered weapon, but he recognises something of his own tragic past in her and instead stays with her in her final moments, comforting her as she dies harmlessly. It's a surprisingly touching moment, especially in a cartoon that would traditionally go for action over sentiment.

57. Finally Getting To Batter The Riddler

After laboriously finding 100 hidden trophies and solving 42 riddles in Arkham Asylum only to be rewarded by an audio recording of him being arrested, fans looked forward to actually tracking down Edward Nigma in Arkham City - it only took another 400-odd challenges and some hostage situations to do so. However if you persevered, eventually you got a confrontation of sorts, meticulously infiltrating Riddler's compound and finally reaching up from underground to pull his cocky green-suited-self straight through the floor.
