Batman: 80 Greatest Ever Moments

8. Walking The Joker Into Arkham - Arkham Asylum

Batman Arkham Asylum
Rocksteady

Nobody expected anything from Arkham Asylum back in 2009, but even from its opening moments, players knew they were in for something special. After a brief cutscene showing The Joker in chains in the back of the Batmobile, fans were immediately put into the shoes of the Caped Crusader, as he personally escorted his nemesis into the heart of Arkham Asylum itself.

Even though all you do is walk, it established that Rocksteady knew what they were doing. Everything from the gothic visuals to the haunting music to the banter between Mark Hamill's Joker and Kevin Conroy's Batman was pitched to perfection, and even before they'd thrown a punch, it was made clear that this was going to be the definitive video game take on the universe.

It felt like you were walking into hell itself, and immediately set the bar for all superhero games to come.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
