Many believe Julie Newmar’s portrayal of Catwoman is the true portrayal of the character. Newmar set the standard of how Selina should be portrayed on screen, immediately jumping in and making the character entirely her own.

Many actresses who played Catwoman after Julie loosely based their versions of Selina on hers. Newmar not only looked fantastic and sexy in the skin-tight suit she was in, but also created a sexy and alluring portrayal of the character, stealing scenes whenever she was on screen.

Newmar was able to show a sympathetic side of Selina through her flirtatious chemistry with Adam West’s Batman, creating an even more complex character. She was also not afraid to shy away from the bad side of Catwoman, rarely showing the good side of the character, but completely relishing in the dangerous and dark side of the cat-burglar.

Julie Newmar reprised her role as Catwoman in the two 2010s animated Batman movies based on the TV series. Even though she wasn’t physically playing the role, Newmar again was able to steal every scene she was in.
