Batman Future Films: 8 Big Questions That Demand Answers

8. What Films Will Follow Batman Vs. Superman?

The rumor doing the rounds at the moment is that Batman Vs. Superman will be swiftly followed up by a Justice League movie. Given that 1) Wonder Woman has been cast in Batman Vs. Superman, and 2) The Avengers made the annual GDP of several African nations at the box office, this piece of gossip seems quite plausible. The real question, though, is... are there any plans for any solo Batman movies in the pipeline? Since 1989, Batman movies have made a total of $3.5 billion at the box office; the sort of money that could buy enough shark repellent bat-spray to last a lifetime. Such bankability (even Batman and Robin made $238,207,122) means that he is unlikely to sit on the sidelines for too long. The longest that we have ever gone without a stand-alone Batman movie since 1989 was the eight year gap between Batman and Robin and Batman Begins. Another thing to consider is what sort of structure these films will follow. Will we see a trilogy of inter-connected films, or will it be back to the episodic nature of Burton and Schumacher's offerings? Unlike Marvel, DC/Warner Bros. has not released a schedule of its upcoming films, meaning that the public is still very much in the dark as to whether there is an overall plan or not.
