Batman Future Films: 8 Big Questions That Demand Answers

5. Will Zack Snyder Direct The Batman Films?

Just like Ben Affleck, director Zack Snyder is not exactly beloved by all the fan community. While his handling of graphic novel properties 300 and Watchmen were met with mostly solid reviews, the way that he presented Superman in the Man of Steel left many fans of the Kryptonian outraged, with a feeling that he had betrayed the characteristics that are so vital to the character. When it was announced that Snyder would be helming Batman vs Superman, and thus dealing with the first big screen meeting of the world's two most iconic superheroes, this fan backlash grew from a storm to a hurricane, with many deciding then and there that they had lost faith in the project. While the artistic merit of Man of Steel can be argued, however, it is important to realize that the film was a strong box office performer for Warner Bros.. Worldwide it made over $668 million - an impressive jump on Superman Returns' $391 million. This showed that Snyder had it in him to make the character a pull at the box office again, meaning that he was always going to be handed the reigns to Superman's next appearance. When it comes to Batman, though, things aren't so assured. Man of Steel's box office may have been good, but it was nowhere near as strong as Nolan's last two Batman films. If Snyder can't bring in Avengers-level money for Batman vs Superman - probably the most anticipated superhero team-up in history - then there is a good chance that Warner Bros will look elsewhere for the director of their next stand-alone Batman movie. It is also possible that Snyder might not even want the job, preferring to stick with Superman films rather than those that focus predominantly on Batman or other DC characters
