Though there was absolutely no need to show Bruce Wayne's parents being killed yet again, Zack Snyder has arguably served up the definitive (and certainly the most visually stunning) version to date. The movie opens with the Waynes coming out of the theater after seeing Excalibur, at which point they're accosted by a gunman, who guns down Thomas Wayne in slow-motion, intercut with Bruce running away from his parents' funeral and falling into a cave, where he first meets the bats that would define him. Arguably one of the best shots in the movie occurs as Martha then attacks the shooter, only for him to wrap his gun around her pearl necklace and fire, sending the pearls flying all over the place as she falls to the floor. It may have simply re-trod old ground in a movie with so much to juggle, but at least it looked incredible, and the haunting score from Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL was terrific.
