Batman V Superman: 10 New Hints It's Going To Suck (But Why There’s Still Hope)
2. The Extremely Dark Tone
The Concern: Batman is an inherently dark character so he naturally lends himself to a similar cinematic tone. Unfortunately, that sort of vibe has been done before with the Nolan movies where it was both effective and recent. This just feels like the movie is being dark simply for the sake of being dark as opposed to actually adding something to the film. Especially since this tone has never really fit well with Superman and could potentially make him feel like a stranger in his own movie. Why Theres Still Hope: This dark, violent take on the material could greatly help to root the film in reality. Christopher Nolan did this by doing away with Batmans more fantastical elements, but Snyder could achieve a similar feat by making it feel as if these super people just stepped out into the real world. This way of approaching the material could help set the film apart from Marvels outings. While DCs approach of avoiding Marvels family-friendly films may be to their own detriment, it could still give the DCEU a flavour of its own, making it feel like a new take on the ever-popular superhero genre.
