3. Lex Luthors Characterization
The Concern: Ever since the moment of his casting, Jesse Eisenbergs role as Lex Luthor has been mired in uncertainty and caution. Fans were understandably concerned that he was too young and his divisive take on the character has thus far not won a lot of them over. The concerns go beyond simply the performance and to the fact that this may be a very unfaithful take on Lex Luthor. Rather than the calm, calculating mastermind, Luthor has thus far drawn unfavourable comparisons to Jim Carreys Riddler. Why Theres Still Hope: Jesse Eisenberg is still a very good actor. His performance in The Social Network with an added twinge of evil could make for a very compelling Lex Luthor and one out-of-context scene shouldnt cause that opinion to change overnight. Theres any number of reasons why this excited Lex is prancing around. He could be putting on a fake persona for the public much like Bruce Wayne does with his naive playboy personality. Conversely, this could have just been Eisenberg experimenting in a take that wont even make it into the film. More so than any plot element, it's hard to write off an entire performance this early.
