Batman V Superman: 10 Reasons It's Not As Bad As The Critics Are Saying

3. Henry Cavill Doesn't Deserve The Hate

Henry Cavill, who reprises his role as Clark Kent/Superman in the movie, has taken a bit of a beating from the critics for his turn here (more than Jesse Eisenberg, even, who is plainly awful in the movie and remains totally insufferable from start to finish).

Most of critics seemed to feel as though Cavill was one-note and uncharismatic, and to an extent that's true. But he's no more one-note and uncharismatic than pretty much everyone else who makes up Zack Snyder's universe. There are only a few characters who one could really describe as "charismatic" here (Jeremy Irons' Alfred, maybe?), and given the context of the story - everyone hates Superman - what did anyone really expect from him?

Cavill delivers his Superman just fine, considering the material on offer. To single out Cavill as a loose link in Batman v Superman seems ill-judged, especially since he does exactly the same melancholy thing that he did in Man of Steel (and this is the same character).

Given the other problems to be associated with this film, and the dour nature of everyone else's performances, attacking Cavill seems like nitpicking.
