Batman V Superman: 10 Things You Need To Know About Lex Luthor
8. Adam Driver And Joaquin Phoenix Were Seriously Considered For The Part
Its clear that DC and Warner Bros have set the bar for casting pretty high in regards to their films. Considering the caliber of actor that Marvel is drawing in, its no surprise that theyre trying to match this. And when the part in question is for one of the most famous villains in pop culture in a massive blockbuster film, its unsurprising that a fair share of talented actors had their names in the mix. Before Jesse Eisenberg was cast, there were a few other legitimate contenders. Joaquin Phoenix became publicly linked to the film and many surmised he was up for the role of Luthor. Phoenix is notoriously choosy about his parts and unsurprisingly turned it down. Then there was Adam Driver, who was rumoured for Nightwing, though it was later confirmed that he was actually considered for Luthor as well, but passed because of scheduling conflicts (with Star Wars perhaps?) Tom Hanks, Bradley Cooper, Matt Damon, and Jean Dujardin were all cited by the studio as potential choices although none were seriously pursued. Likewise, fan favourite Bryan Cranston was never considered. Lets just hope that Eisenberg owns the part so were not left wondering what could have been.
