Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice - 8 Reasons Why The New Trailer Kills All Hope For The Film
2. Sigh, It Is Just Super Friends
I've been saying this ever since the film was announced, but the very nature of building the DC Extended (née Cinematic) Universe on top of a Batman versus Superman movie means that you inevitably know the punch-up will end with the two putting aside their differences and becoming pals. No, not parting on shaky terms destined for lots of scowling in the coming years, but actually becoming a movie approximation of World's Finest. It's only looked more like that as production rumbled on, with the introduction of the Dawn Of Justice subtitle, the official synopsis teasing a greater threat and the plethora of (now-confirmed) rumours about Dumbsday's involvement, but now it's fully confirmed for the whole world that this is indeed the movie's real purpose; after spending much of its run time on the titular conflict, the final thirty seconds of the trailer jumps to Lex Luthor creating Doomsday, bringing Wonder Woman into the fray and causing the Son of Krypton and Bat of Gotham (urgh) to fight side by side. It feels like a lost opportunity as an idea, making the once-in-a-lifetime cinematic event a footnote to a Justice League prequel. The fight will happen, sure, placating those who want super-on-super action, but it's just part of a bigger movie, rather than the entire point. That's disappointing, but what makes it worse is that it's been confirmed now; the movie is still three-and-a-half months away from release, yet we already know what its end state is going to be from the official marketing. Who markets a film called Batman V Superman on the fact that the fight ends with them best buds? And that thinking may just be the biggest mar against the film...
