Batman V Superman: 5 Major Revelations From The Costume Designer

5. Superman's Looking A Little Different Than He Did In Man Of Steel

Wilkinson also worked on Man of Steel, so cultivating the look and feel of Krypton's favoured son wasn't a completely alien challenge. However, that doesn't mean Superman's wardrobe hasn't reshaped a bit over the past two years:
"We streamlined plus sharpened the details of the costume a little to suit the more earthly (less alien) context of this film."
Wilkinson reportedly brushed the new suit with Kryptonian script; clearly a man who understands the importance of fine detail. The secondary reds in the outfit also pop a little more here than in the previous film, which hopefully is an indication the tone in Batman V Superman will be a little less oppressively sombre than Man of Steel's grim vibes. Obviously to preserve continuity the changes must be minimal, but it's cool to hear the outfit has been finely tuned so it better suits this specific production. As for the streamlining, I imagine that's been implemented to help create a starker contrast between Superman and Affleck's chunkier Batman. It'll help differentiate them visually and should prove useful in rendering them aesthetic opposites (and maybe even equals) in prospective combat sequences.
