Batman V Superman Trailer: 7 Things You're Wrong To Bitch About It
3. The Dialogue
OK, so the dialogue between Bruce and Clark is a bit on the nose, especially when it comes to mentioning clowns and vigilante justice (plus Clark seems to be pretty terrible at maintaining cordial relationships with important figures for a journalist), but the premises at play in Batman V Superman and the DC universe on a whole mean that a bit of melodramatically heightened dialogue should be applauded rather than groaned at. This is a film where an alien shoots eye-lasers at a man in a giant metal suit with pointy ears, why shouldn't the tone of the dialogue be equally, ambitiously mad? The exchange between Bruce, Clark and Lex does well to set up the conflicts central to the film, and it's just fun to see a bit of verbal sparring between the self-righteous Kryptonion and the prickly, older, vigilante before the fists start flying. Likewise, Lex's exposition of his scheme lacks nuance but pushes the notion that the character has more going on between the eyes than you might credit it him. And given how serious the rest of the film looks in places, tackling zealotry and the price of superpowers, the film can also be forgiven for that duff quip when Wonder Woman shows up.
