You're absolutely right: Bradley Cooper as the Joker? What were we thinking? But hold on for a moment, and consider how far this actor has come in recent years - he's right at the top of the Hollywood pile, and for good reason: man can really act. Okay, so Hollywood might be a little hesitant at the prospect of hiring another handsome guy to ugly up and put on a funny voice all over again, but there's a sense of natural charisma about Cooper that could really work in his favour. Who's to say that this new, rebooted version of the Joker couldn't embrace that charisma in ways that Heath Ledger didn't? Would it hurt to re-invent the character somewhat for a new era, in the same way that the producers behind Batman Vs. Superman seem to be doing with this whole Jesse Eisenberg is Lex Luthor thing? Cooper is a leading man for sure, but like lots of others on this list, there's something not quite right visible in his gaze. Watch him laughing manically during that climatic scene in American Hustle and tell us he ain't a contender. Thought so.
