5. Sam Rockwell

Sam Rockwell is one of the best and most underrated actors working in Hollywood today - to say that he deserves a role like that of the Joker is an understatement. Fact is, Rockwell has proven himself capable of playing good (Moon), bad (Iron Man 2) and just about everything inbetween for nearly 20 years. There's also a natural sense dedicated immersion that comes tied to every one of his performances. "I feel a little strange all the time, a little bit off-center," he one said about himself. "I never feel that people are as nutty as me." That could almost be a Joker line! Thing is, Rockwell is capable of huge dramatic heights and has a strange, manic energy about him... like a bored, smartass kid who's been left to look after a sweet shop by his parents for a couple of hours. You can imagine what happens when he lets all his friends into the shop to go wild - all whilst he puts on a show. That kind of energy seems perfectly fitted to the character of the Joker, of course - a dangerous playfulness with the potential of going bad. Really bad.
