6. John Hurt Is Alfred
Easily one of the hardest characters to recast aside from Batman himself, Alfred Pennyworth was played with superb vigour by Michael Caine in Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, easily surpassing all prior incarnations of the character, and helping to revitalise the actor's career somewhat in the process. Though stepping into those shoes is going to be a thankless task for anyone, being a legendary actor of inestimable acting talent, comic timing and distinct Britishness will certainly help, and who better than John Hurt to step up to the plate? With his distinctive gravelly voice, Hurt will certainly be able to make the role his own, and there's little question that he could convey the grizzled weariness that the character requires, as well as the lighter touch that has defined every iteration of the character.
