Baywatch Review: 2 Ups & 8 Downs

6. Priyanka Chopra's Incredibly Boring Villain

Baywatch Priyanka Chopra
Paramount Pictures

Nobody expects a world-class plot from Baywatch, and to that end the movie does live down to the TV show's lame standards, but would it have killed writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift to put just a little more effort in?

The central villain plot is your garden variety crime kingpin drug territory nonsense, and though the lovely Priyanka Chopra is plenty nice to look at, her baddie is incredibly boring outside of the fact that she's a woman (hilariously, when Johnson calls her crazy, she retorts, "If I was a man, you'd call me driven").

She's otherwise totally humourless and just a thoroughly bland character. It's not really Chopra's fault because the character is written as such, but overall the crime plot just detracts from the movie's sense of fun.
