Baywatch Review: 2 Ups & 8 Downs

5. There Are Several Forced Romances

You know what this movie didn't need? A love story. There are in fact two focal romances, both of them utterly absurd, though one a lot less believable than the other.

The first is Zac Efron's attempts to woo Alexandra Daddario, which looks set to subvert expectations, but nope, it actually goes the whole earnest hog by film's end in rather head-scratching fashion.

Then there's the decidedly less plausible love-in between Kelly Rohrbach's stunner C.J. and Jon Bass' schlub lifeguard Ronnie. She's just way too hot for it to be remotely believable, and while it could've had some satirical potential, the romance is actually played totally straight, making the final payoff that much more bizarre.
