Beauty And The Beast Remake: 18 Major Changes Disney Made
7. Chip Is An Only Child
In The Original
When Chip is up beyond his bed time, Mrs Potts tells him to get off to bed with all of his brothers and sisters, horrifyingly confirming that the curse turned a whole brood of innocent kids into crockery.
In The Remake
Chip has no brothers or sisters, which arguably makes his and his mother's condition even more tragic. It certainly makes the loss suffered by her husband (more of which soon) more poignant.
The film also gets around the long-standing plot-hole that Mrs Potts is clearly too old to have a young son, reimagining her as a younger Emma Thompson, and also riffing on the questions about her age by having LeFou call her Chip's grandmother.
