Beauty And The Beast Remake: 18 Major Changes Disney Made

2. The Ending

Beauty And The Beast Ending
Disney

In The Original

In the cartoon, Belle is able to convince everyone of Maurice's sanity using the magical mirror that proves Beast exists, which infuriates Gaston, who vows vengeance on Beast in his jealousy. He locks Belle and Maurice away and leads a mob to the castle to kill Beast.

Luckily, Chip and Maurice's elaborate wood-cutter invention combine to free the pair and they head to the castle just in time to see Gaston and Beast kill each other (well, Gaston kills Beast and falls from the roof). As Beast dies, Belle confesses her love and the curse is lifted just in time.

And then they live happily ever after. Obviously.

In The Remake

The beginning of the end goes down the same way with the mirror, Belle's confinement and Gaston's rage, but Chip doesn't help Maurice and Belle escape this time out. They escape on their own and Belle heads to the castle, watching Beast spare Gaston and be shot in the back for his sins (and Gaston dies the same way).

Again, she confesses her love as the last petal falls, but instead of the curse breaking itself, the Enchantress reveals herself and lifts the curse personally.

And then they also live happily ever after. This is still Disney, after all.
