Before Paranormal Activity 4: 10 Movies That Paved the Way

5. Alien Abduction: Incident at Orange County

Yet another found footage horror film that aired on UPN Television in 1998, "Alien Abduction" is a remake of a no budget mockumentary made in 1989 that allegedly chronicled the over night experiences of a family who are taunted and stalked by aliens in the woods. After witnessing a UFO landing in the woods, the family retreats back to their cabin only to be plagued by supernatural occurrences, sightings of the alien visitors, and of course an eerily calm young daughter who doesn't seem to be all too horrified by the alien menace lurking outside. Still a daunting and grim horror film that rarely gets any mention, "Alien Abduction" has all the elements of contemporary found footage horror films, including the all too keenly aware young child who knows the end is nigh. There's even a tearful last moment with one of the family members who cry in to the camera professing their fright, a la "The Blair Witch Project."
