It's possible that the 28 Years Later trilogy has been one of the most anticipated in the world of horror in recent years. The original was an unmitigated classic, and even after a sub-par sequel, the return to Danny Boyle's infected UK was a more than welcome one in 2025.

28 Years Later was excellent, and arguably The Bone Temple was even better. With just a six-month gap between the two, The Bone Temple picked up from where its predecessor left off, giving the world one of the best villains of the year in Jack O'Connell's Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal.

Opposite the brutal and sadistic antagonist was Dr Kelson, a role with which Ralph Fiennes gave an outstanding performance. The two characters carried the story while separate, and when they finally came together, they shared a beautiful, vulnerable conversation with each other before the literal fireworks kicked off.

Even before the immediately iconic Number of the Beast scene, for which the film would be remembered for if nothing else, The Bone Temple was well on the way to being one of the year's best. It's just a shame it underperformed at the box office, as it deserved far more.
