The story of a blue-collar worker (Lee Byung-hun) who conceives a plan to kill the main competitors vying for his dream job, Chan-wook's latest thriller is a stunning exercise in comedy, action, and humanity, its off-kilter premise never overpowering the human drama at its core.
Anchored by Byung-hun's desperate but endearing portrayal of a man falling apart at the seams and trying - albeit crazily - to do right by his family, No Other Choice finds Chan-wook operating at damn near his very best.
A searing takedown of capitalism, societal expectation and financial woes, No Other Choice is urgent and eye-opening, and the fact it manages to be so funny is kind of a miracle.
