20 Greatest Horror Movie Endings of the 2020s (So Far)
2. Obsession
Curry Barker's Obsession is the undeniable horror movie phenomenon of the year, and his twisted take on the familiar monkey's paw formula serves up one hell of a fittingly bleak, cruel ending.
After a wish-controlled Nikki (Inde Navarrette) shoots her pal Ian (Cooper Tomlinson) dead, Bear (Michael Johnston) locks himself in his bathroom and takes an overdose of oxycodone.
However, he ends up changing his mind and attempts to vomit up the pills, just as Nikki uses the last remaining One Wish Willow to force him out of the bathroom.
Bear then kisses Nikki, moments before he dies from the overdose, and of course, his death breaks the Willow's influence, Nikki finally regaining control of her body and mind as she observes the carnage in front of her with horror.
While some found Obsession's bummer of an ending to be a little too mean, it's nothing if not a fitting and believable outcome considering everything we've seen throughout the movie - and one that leaves us wondering precisely what the future holds for Nikki. Whatever it is, it's not good.
