20 Awesome Horror Movies NOBODY Talks About

Angst 1983
Les Films Jacques Leitienne

It's not exactly difficult to see why Angst isn't talked about all that much these days, but Gerald Kargl's immensely provocative 1983 serial killer film is one of the most pulsingly unnerving films of its type.

Erwin Leder is phenomenal as our unnamed, recently-released-from-prison serial killer protagonist, the film following him on a multitude of murderous excursions.

But there's absolutely nothing glamorous or trashily entertaining about these set-pieces - Kargl revels in the abject, clumsy nastiness of it all, resulting in a stomach-churning experience even the most hardened of horror fans may struggle to finish.

Yet as an exercise in oppressive tone it's near-unparalleled, aided by unique floating camerawork which keeps us tethered to our unhinged protagonist at almost all times.

But Angst's overpowering unpleasantness combined with its slow, lurching pace - despite an 83-minute runtime - are likely what have kept it arms' reach from so many.

Yet adventurous horror fans owe it to themselves to check it out.
