20 Awesome Horror Movies NOBODY Talks About

11. Excision

With body horror finding unexpected levels of mainstream success with The Substance, it sure feels like high time for the masses to discover Excision - a wonderfully nasty little 2012 horror flick from Richard Bates Jr.

Bates' film centers around Pauline (AnnaLynne McCord), a disturbed teenager who is fascinated with becoming a surgeon and has twisted, bloody fantasies to that end.

Delicately juggling black comedy with tragic horror, Excision is a film that could so easily not work, and yet, Bates maintains a tight grip on his tone while serving up a bevy of unnerving imagery you won't soon forget.

But it's AnnaLynne McCord's astonishingly against-type performance that really makes Excision sing, shedding her glammed-up image to play a mousy outcast with surprising persuasiveness.

It'll be too twisted and gross for many, but if you're prepared to follow Bates and McCord down this dark path, Excision offers plenty of darkly humourous rewards.
