20 Great Performances Wasted In Terrible Horror Movies
8. Kathryn Hunter - The Front Room
The Front Room certainly had a whole ton of potential on paper - an A24-backed film from Robert Eggers' brothers Sam and Max about a pregnant couple who are terrorised by the husband's vile, abusive stepmother, Solange (Kathryn Hunter).
But for the most part The Front Room basically feels like a goofy Lifetime thriller with a glossy coat of paint slapped on it, where the increasingly convoluted script makes it a struggle to buy into most of what's happening.
Yet you can't fault Kathryn Hunter at all, whose utterly bonkers performance is the sole reason to even consider watching The Front Room.
As the cackling, grotesque Solange, Hunter treats the material with as much respect as the many Shakespearean roles she's played on stage, in turn running rings around her co-stars.
Beyond Hunter having the absolute time of her life, though, The Front Room is a tough film to stomach.
