Best Popular Film Oscar: 10 Most Likely Nominees
7. Deadpool 2
Though its humour perhaps didn't feel as fresh as the first movie, Deadpool 2 was a solid improvement on its predecessor in a number of key areas: the narrative was more interesting, the villain was actually worth a damn, and it had awesome added value by way of Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz).
While a few years ago the prospect of a Deadpool movie cracking $700 million at the box office seemed laughable, now the two films have grossed more than $1.5 billion combined. If that doesn't indicate a popular-as-hell movie, what does?
Chances Of Winning: The R-rated factor could work against it compared to its competition, while the movie's obvious appeal to the teenage crowd, who typically aren't interested in the Oscars, also isn't helpful.
Simply, it hasn't got a hope in hell of winning, as hilarious as that would be, if only to see Ryan Reynolds take to the Oscar podium in his Deadpool costume.
