8. The Big Dance Number - The Bride!

The Bride
Warner Bros.

At least you can say Maggie Gyllenhaal took one hell of a big swing with her Bride of Frankenstein reimagining, even if the end result was more overpoweringly grating than a bold remix of the classic story.

While those early rumours about the film being a musical weren't true, the standout scene in the film is a song-and-dance number, as Jessie Buckley's Mary Shelley-possessed Bride, Christian Bale's Frank, and various others also possessed by Shelley boogie down to "Puttin' On the Ritz."

This occurs in the middle of a high-class party where Frank is rebuffed by his idol, actor Ronnie Reed (Jake Gyllenhaal), prompting him to retort by spontaneously bursting into dance.

It's the one scene in the film that lands the entertainingly chaotic vibe Gyllenhaal was presumably shooting for the entire time, while serving as a cute homage to a similar sequence set to the very same tune from Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein.
