Best/Worst Case For 15 Summer Movies (With Predictions)

9. Men In Black: International

The Lion King Simba
Sony Pictures

Release Date: June 14th

Reboots are now commonplace, so revisiting Men In Black was inevitable. Unlike many reboots that can come off as forced, Men In Black seems like the type of title that can do so in organic fashion, as its not necessarily tied to its previous stars or stories. Replacing Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, a pair that already has proven chemistry.

Best Case: With so little enthusiasm around this project to this point, the success of MiB: International could rely more on its actual quality than most movies in this gallery. This won't be a problem if it's good. The chemistry between Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson becomes the highlight of a fun movie that wows critics, leading unconvinced movie goers to make it the surprise hit of the summer.

Worst Case: Despite everything that this movie has working for it, no one really asked for another installment in this franchise. MiB 3 had the weakest domestic box office in the franchise and, although early, this installment is tracking for a significantly less profitable domestic run. A scenario in which the international gross is modest could see MiB: International enter flop territory.

Prediction: Men in Black: International probably won't live up to the first film starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, but it doesn't have to. It just has to be fun and different enough to justify its existence. This movie should be entertain and warrant future films.
