20 Most Insane Box Office Flops Of The 2020s (So Far)

7. Desert Warrior

Of all the ginormous flops on this list, Desert Warrior is the one you most likely haven't heard of.

This Anthony Mackie-starring historical action film began shooting in September 2021 and finally ended up releasing theatrically this past April - more than four-and-a-half years after cameras started rolling.

The film was conceived as Saudi Arabia's first blockbuster film, rocking a budget of $150 million, and yet, by the time its meagre box office run was over, it grossed just $759,228 globally, after enduring one of the worst domestic openings in history for a major production.

There were so, so many factors working against this one.

There's the film's troubled post-production, which reportedly saw director Rupert Wyatt briefly quit the film, the fair unpopularity of historical epics at the box office, the lack of marketing, and atrocious reviews.

For a $150 million tentpole to not even gross $1 million is an all-timer travesty, and makes basically every other flop on this list seem not quite so bad.
