Of all the heroes on the Birds of Prey, Helena Bertinelli - the Huntress - has the most baggage.
The orphaned daughter of a mob boss and a vigilante with a decidedly more lethal approach, Huntress hasn't always been embraced by DC's superhero community - as was evidenced by her appearances on Justice League Unlimited. She's a bit of a fan-fave though, and while there are too many incarnations of the character to count on one hand, there are a few interpretations Yan should look to in her adaptation of Simone's comic.
When Birds of Prey first released, Huntress was a fully fledged member of Gotham's vigilante group and one who held a fractious relationship with those outside of her immediate circle. If that's the character set to join the Birds of Prey film, then Gina Rodriguez is a more than obvious choice.
Rodriguez has broken out as a star over the last few years, garnering widespread attention for her role as the titular Jane in CW's Jane the Virgin as well as for her role in Annihilation, Alex Garland's seminal Sci-Fi thriller which released on Netflix earlier this year. She fits Huntress' profile perfectly, and with the character having played such a big role in the comics, expect her to feature prominently in the film too.

In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
