Black Christmas Review: 2 Ups & 7 Downs

1. The Decent Cinematography & Musical Score

And the only other positive? If you can deal with the aforementioned headache-inducing editing, the movie is relatively well-shot, with cinematographer Mark Schwartzbard emphasising appropriately warm colours - especially bright neon - to evoke the expected Christmas vibe.

A musical score from Will and Brooke Blair is also sufficiently intense, even if it's largely wasted on the film's empty, scatter-brained suspense set-pieces. But the film would certainly be even worse without it.

These elements combine to make Black Christmas 2019 at least basically acceptable to the eyes and ears for the most part, except whenever director Takal tries to move the camera or her characters too much.
