Black Christmas Review: 2 Ups & 7 Downs

Ups...

2. The Solid Ensemble Cast

Black Christmas 2019
Universal

Easily the film's biggest plus is the ensemble cast of primarily young women who play the movie's embattled sorority girls.

The chemistry between cast members is palpable throughout, even when they're forced to rattle through head-smackingly terrible dialogue that most all actors would surely want to laugh at.

Leading the pack is, of course, the ever-reliable Imogen Poots, who tries her absolute damnedest to sell her character's trauma, while Aleyse Shannon makes the best of her role as the outspoken Kris.

Cary Elwes is meanwhile having some hammy fun as Professor Gelson, perhaps the only actor here acutely aware of exactly what kind of movie he's actually in.

But on the whole, the cast doesn't embarrass themselves despite how easily they clearly could have.
