BLACK DYNAMITE trailer

In a perfect world this trailer for BLACK DYNAMITE would have been playing alongside Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez'sGRINDHOUSE. It's a full out homage to the blackxploitation era, with conscious nods to SHAFT, THE MACK and the best of Pam Grier with COFFY and FOXY BROWN. And probably so much more but my knowledge of the genre is mostly limited to those mentioned above. But this isn't just a trailer for a fake movie. Scott Sanders (writer/director of a forgotten 1998 Alec Baldwin thriller THICK AS THIEVES) has actually made a full feature starring Michael Jai White as a SHAFT esque hero, out to avenge the death of his brother. Underneath that tache and afro is Gambol from THE DARK KNIGHT. Twitch call it "Parody Done Right" as opposed to comedies like UNDERCOVER BROTHER and I totally agree. Although the trailer does get a little stale towards the end, it's amazing that with so little a budget these guys can nail it on the head when other parodies like STARSKY & HUTCH and more recently GET SMART, with much bigger starsgot it so very wrong.

I don't believe the movie has a distribution deal and will probably be going STV. I can't say I'm excited to see the whole thing but I do adore the trailer and it kinda makes me wish Tarantino/Rodriguez had challenged young filmmakers to make a GRINDHOUSE feature and then make a trailer... which they could have then placed in GRINDHOUSE promoting real movies rather than the fake ones he made with his pals. Can you imagine the exposure something like BLACK DYNAMITE would have received then?
