Black Panther: 30 Easter Eggs & References You Probably Missed
30. Bast
The film opens with an excellent animated sequence, showing off the origins of Wakanda, Vibranium and the Black Panther line, and in there there's mention of the cat Goddess Bast, who helped the first Panther to become king.
Bast is taken straight from the comics - as well as from Egyptian mythology - and is recurring character who is traditionally worshipped by the Wakandans. It is she that Ramonda appeals to to save the life of her wounded son in the wake of his fight with Killmonger.
Another "real life" God is mentioned by M'Baku later in the movie. He mentions Hanuman, the monkey god his gorilla-inspired tribe worship, and who is part of Indian lore.
