Black Widow: 10 Huge Questions We Still Have
2. Will Yelena Become The MCU's New Black Widow?
After an entire decade in the MCU, Black Widow is finally joining the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Spider-Man in having her own stand alone movie. Though it is thoroughly deserved and far too long in the making, now does seem like a strange time to bring to life the Black Widow franchise.
Scarlett Johansson has indeed seemingly confirmed this will be the beginning of a new franchise, which makes sense since Marvel Studios doesn't do stand alone movies. But with the inconvenience of Romanoff's recent death, there is only so much Kevin Feige can do with any more Black Widow movies.
Unless of course, the title is passed on to someone else. Technically speaking, Nat, Yelena, and Melina have all been through the Black Widow programme, and could all carry the name, however with Nat dead and Melina likely evolving into Iron Maiden, Yelena may well be the one to carry the Black Widow mantle forward into phase four and beyond.
Florence Pugh is one of the best young actors in Hollywood right now, and Marvel Studios would do well to lock her in to a multi-movie contract, carrying on the name that Scarlett Johansson made relevant throughout the last ten years.
