7. It's A Refreshing, Feminist Twist On The Teen Sex Comedy

If you were worried that this film was going to end up demonising the sexual expression of young people, fear not, because Blockers is a uniquely sex-positive movie while providing a totally fresh, feminist spin on the typical teen "sex pact" movie.

Its most obvious point of comparison, of course, is American Pie: by flipping the script and making three women the focal point, the film makes a passionate plea for society to embrace female sexuality as much as it does that of men, rather than the double standard that it's a rite of passage for men and something to be preserved until "that special someone" for women.

At the same time the movie isn't wantonly suggesting that young women should give themselves over to the first man who comes a-knocking, but is above all else a celebration of personal choice, self-confidence and love in whatever form it comes.

The film wraps that message inside a riotous comedy that should make it palatable even to audiences who are averse to social justice themes in their movies.
