Bond 24 Wishlist: 10 Things That Must Happen

3. Emmanuel Lubezki As Cinematographer

Film lovers the world over rejoiced when it was announced that Roger Deakins, arguably the world's most distinguished cinematography, was going to handle lensing duties on Skyfall. The results, of course, were marvelous, resulting in easily the best-looking Bond film ever, one which scooped Deakins an Oscar nomination even if, for the 9th time, he was again denied the win. The problem with Deakins not returning, though, is that it's difficult to imagine any filmmaker replicating such a gorgeous visual style. Or is it? Emmanuel Lubezki is certainly one of the best DPs working today, having filmed a number of visually stunning films over the last 15 years, including Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow, Alfonso Cuaron's Y Tu Mama Tambien, Children of Men and Gravity, Michael Mann's Ali, Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life and To the Wonder, and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's upcoming Birdman. He's got a varied career in both slick, high-budget blockbusters and more methodical art-house fare, which just might make him the right director to team with Sam Mendes. Still, Lubezki is very much in demand, already committed to Inarritu's next project The Revenant (starring Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio), so it'll be a tight fit if they can nab him for the shoot.
