20 Upcoming Film & TV Shows That Just Got Cancelled
9. The Talisman
A feature-length adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub's 1984 fantasy novel The Talisman has been in some stage of development for literally decades, and in 2021 it was announced that a Netflix TV series was in the works from Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer.
The novel revolves around a 12-year-old boy, Jack Sawyer, who sets out in pursuit of a magical talisman which can apparently save his dying mother.
It sure sounds like material that the Duffers could knock out of the park, then, but the duo confirmed back in December that the series was no longer going ahead.
The Duffers lamented that they wouldn't be the ones to "break the curse" and finally get The Talisman made, and while they didn't elaborate on the reason, it's likely due to the duo ending their partnership with Netflix and inking an exclusive, four-year deal with Paramount to produce movies, TV, and other streaming projects.
Hopefully The Talisman will get made by someone someday, but if the Duffers of all people couldn't get it over the line, what hope does anyone else have?
