5. NCIS: Tony & Ziva
NCIS is one of those evergreen TV procedural franchises that just seems too big to fail, considering the phenomenal success of not only the main show - which was recently renewed for a 24th (!) season - but the glut of hit spin-offs.
But in a surprise announcement, back in December Paramount confirmed that the most recent spin-off, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, wouldn't be returning for a second season.
The spin-off, centered around NCIS characters Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), was canned less than two months after its first season wrapped up.
Though no formal reason has been given, the show's fast viewership decline is most likely to blame, with some fans suggesting that Paramount simply waited too long to produce a spin-off that might've been a hit, say, a decade ago, shortly after Weatherly and de Pablo left the flagship NCIS show.
Legacy follow-ups are all the rage right now, but sometimes the audience appetite just isn't there for it.
