Who Won? Michel Franco - Chronic Did It Deserve To Win? No. Chronic was a film buoyed by one thing - its great central performance by Tim Roth. Everything else was a bit muddled, especially the script - with a series of episodic events going over similar ground and an ending that feels like wrapping things up just so the screenwriter can clock off early. Quite how this was decided as the best is perplexing. Who Should Have Won? It would have knocked most critics for six with a win given its mixed reception, but Louder Than Bombs, which uses a variety of dream-like methods to tell its story, is a perfect fit; while much of its ultimate effect comes from Joachim Trier's direction, the underlying key is in the script.
