Who Won? Vincent Lindon - The Measure Of A Man
Did It Deserve To Win?The Measure Of A Man was a ponderous bore. Of course, a bad film shouldn't waylay love of a great performance (see
Chronic), but even then it's hard to say Lindon excelled. The painfully-long takes were intended to emphasise his representation of a regular man struggling with money and internal problems, but they merely led to his performance tiring alongside the film.
Who Should Have Won? Michael Caine for
Youth, who transfers that much-imitated slowing speech into a highly recollective, personal performance. This decision could potentially be rectified come the Oscars.
