Cannes 2015: Who Really Should Have Won?

Best Director

Who Won? Hou Hsiao-hsien's - The Assassin Did It Deserve To Win?The Assassin looks great, but aside from that doesn't offer up much. There's some room for argument that crafting a consistent, interesting world is integral to a director's job, but that ignores how totally lacking in narrative sense Hou Hsiao-hsien's film is. An incredibly overrated film, it's at least a relief to see it didn't get awarded anything higher. Who Should Have Won? Justin Kurzel for Macbeth. His Shakespeare adaptation may boast great performances from Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, but what really sells it is the recreation of 1100's Scotland and measured edit of Shakespeare's play.
