Cannes 2015: Who Really Should Have Won?

Palme d'Or

Who Won? Jacques Audiard - Dheepan Did It Deserve To Win? And so it is that the film a bunch of critics walked out of so they could make Gaspar Noé's Love takes home the big prize. Dheepan is a great story, with excellent performances from first-timers and wonderful underlying message, but it's hardly the most exciting or challenging film of the festival. An out there choice that will leave many people scratching their heads. Who Should Have Won?Carol - it is, quite simply, the best film of the festival (in competition at least). Mara is more than deserved of Best Actress, but to focus just on her (and Cate Blanchett's) performance undercuts the stellar work done by Todd Haynes and Phyllis Nagy in adapting Patricia Highsmith's complex work. Of course, all of this discussion is somewhat moot; if Disney could have been restrained enough and not pre-screened it, then Inside Out could have been entered. And that would be a totally deserved recipient of such a prize. Which Cannes 2015 film are you most looking forward to? Shout out how the awards have altered your expectations down in the comments.
