Captain America 2 Ending: 11 Big Implications For Marvel Phase 3

4. Tony Stark's Mysterious Past Might Be Solved

In one of the cameos and callbacks in Winter Soldier, it is revealed that Howard Stark was assassinated by HYDRA, using the Winter Soldier, because he was deemed a threat to their power. Intriguingly, the man who presumably carried out the assassination, Bucky, is still walking around, and given the fact that Sebastian Stan has signed a multi-movie deal to appear in future movies, it's a reasonable bet that Stark and Bucky will at some point come face to face, especially given that the ending suggests that Bucky is on the road to finding out who he actually is. That journey can only end with the Avengers, and we can perhaps expect fireworks when he gets there. So What Next? Someone out of Black Widow and Captain America must presumably bring up the fact that Arnim Zola told them that HYDRA had ordered the assassination of Howard Stark - he might be a bit of an insufferable cad at times, but he's their friend, and his service to saving the world would surely qualify him for the courtesy. Quite how Iron Man will react remains to be seen - his relationship with his father amounts to holograms (oddly of a much older version of Stark Snr than Dominic Cooper played) - and he's definitely got some Daddy issues. But will he be able to accept that Captain America's new best buddy robbed him of a proper relationship with his father - especially since he notoriously clashes with Cap anyway? Or maybe Stark will realise that the death of his father turned him into the man he is - with all of the benefits - and will simply thank Bucky?
